About this Lecture
Lecture
In this module, we think about religion, focusing in particular on how successful the Elizabethan Settlement was.
Course
In this course, Dr Susan Doran (University of Oxford) explores the reign of Elizabeth I. In the first module, we think about the first five years of Elizabeth’s reign, the problems she faced in his period, and how well she dealt with them. After that, we turn to Elizabeth’s relationship with her ministers, before thinking about how well she managed the religious divisions that pertained in England at this time. In the fourth module, we consider how well Elizabeth dealt with the economic issues of the time, before moving on to the problems surrounding the succession and the final decade of her reign in the fifth and sixth modules.
Lecturer
Susan Doran is Professor of Early Modern British History at the University of Oxford. She has a substantial publishing record which reflects a particular interest in the religious and political history of the Tudors, especially Elizabeth I.
