Sexual Offences

In this course, Professor John Child (University of Birmingham) explores sexual offences. In the first module, we look at the different kinds of sexual offences outlined in the Sexual Offences Act 2003. In the second module, we examine the various non-consent offences contained within the Act. In the third module, we discuss the actus reus of non-consent, before turning to mens rea in the fourth module. In the fifth and final module, we look at consent in relation to intoxication and deception in the criminal law.

Types of Sexual Offences

In this module, we introduce the different types of sexual offences, focusing in particular on (i) the Sexual Offences Act 2003 (ii) the definition of consent in the statute (iii) non-consent offences (iv) offences against children under thirteen years (v) offences against children between thirteen and fifteen years (vi) associated offences against children (vii) further sexual offences (viii) wrongfulness and the intervention of the criminal law.
