About this Lecture

Lecture

In this module, we think about how stressful events can impact on our health and mental well-being. We begin by introducing psychoneuroimmunology, a field of research exploring the connection between psychological processes and our immune system, before moving on to discuss the negative health impact of acute stress. In particular, we focus on exam stress and a research study by Marucha et al. (1998) which investigated the effects of exam stress on wound healing. Finally, we consider the impact that chronic stress can have on our health, leading to continuous anxiety or burnout.

Course

In this course, Dr Sarita Robinson (University of Central Lancashire) discusses the topic of stress. We begin, in module one, by thinking about how we can define stress before moving on to examine how the body responds to stress in module two. Module three looks at the impact stress has on our health and well-being, while module four explores different methods of measuring stress. Finally, in module five, we think about how we can manage and cope with stressful situations.
